Ari Lennox
Courtney Shanade Salter, also known as Ari Lennox, a Washington, D.C.-based American singer/songwriter, was signed as the label's first female artist on Dreamville Records by J. Cole. Her first EP, Pho was released on the 21st of October, 2016 and was released on Dreamville Records. The singer began to earn recognition. Shea Butter Baby is her debut album. It came out on May 19, 2019. Ari Lennox uploaded her songs online in 2012 when she released Five Finger Discount mixtape and Ariography EP in 2013. The singer continued uploading her tracks online through 2014 and released her own single Bound. On July 21 2015 Omen featured her on his album Elephant Eyes in the song Sweat it Out. J. Cole was interested in her talent and wanted to use it with Rihanna. The official signing ceremony was held by Dreamville Records on 8 December. She was featured on the collaborative album Revenge of the Dreamers II featuring the track Backseat Cozz. In October of 2016 the singer-songwriter released her debut EP, Pho. Ari Lennox later appeared on J. Cole's hit song Change and was an opening act on the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour in the year 2017. She also appeared in 2018 in two of her songs with label-mates EarthGang in the video for Nothing but the Best. and Bas On Icarus. On the 16th of July in 2018, Ari Lennox released the first single Whipped Cream on her first album Shea Butter Baby with an accompanying music video, which was released on the 5th of September. Her second single called Grampa on the 9th of November. In November 2013 she released No One as well as Pedigree. Shea Butter Baby is a track that she recorded with Cole for Creed II's soundtrack on 16 November. The track was released as a standalone single in February 2019, to coincide with her debut album. The track was accompanied by the music video which debuted that was released on February 20, 2019, and it surpassed the milestone of 3 million views on YouTube within the first week. In December of 2018, she was a supporting act on the From East Atlanta With Love Tour with 6LACK.
